Just this weekend, my party came across a double door that lead to a room with goblins in it (we're 1st level, so that's a big deal). Our rogue peaked through, and made his Stealth roll so they didn't see him.

So, we had our warrior open the door and taunt the goblins, while the rogue and our Ranger took ranged pot shots, and immediately after that, I -- a Gnome Illusionist -- cast a Silent Image of the warrior closing the doors. The goblins ran toward us, then stopped to open the 'door,' and 5/8 of them failed and fell on their faces, and we were able to get a SECOND surprise round, this time with a handful of them prone.

Me and my friend both play rogues. He plays them consistently and I play them occasionally. Either way, he maintains a list of items that cost less then 500 (and within that, a list of mundane or near-mundane items that cost little) and I keep my own list of items that are usually useful.
